So we have our first busted water line main of the season. Seemed it was first noticed last evening, it was a while before council workers were contacted to turn off the main, in the mean time the brooking water threatened several homes, not sure to what extent but volunteers were out trying as best they could to divert the rush down into a natural drainage channel.
The break is up near the high school, at the moment the council workers are just starting to dig through the frost with jackhammers, the excavator is there too.
With the water turned off at a valve at the bottom of Sandbanks Road it has strangely effected about half the town, even homes on the other side of the old dam, this area is at right angles and behind where the valve is, in time some one will figure out why that is. Our home still has water, so far.
I’d hazard a guess and say that the break is related to all the cold temperatures and lack of snow of the past two months, if we don’t get more snow more breaks are in the offering. What happens is; after extreme cold the frost gets into the ground, then if you get a run of warmer air [relatively speaking] the frost already in the ground is driven deeper. that's what is happening her now, temperatures are up to -7 today, -12 yesterday.
Light snow fell all day yesterday too [9.7mm], it’s still snowing today and the wind has picked up causing very limited visibility in open areas.

The pictures show where the water is running out from under the road leading to the school #1. The channel it made and some of the ice left from where it headed towards the homes in that area #2/3/4 and where is ended up out in the harbor #5.
On a sadder note; There was a suicide in town Saturday morning, a young lady decided that life was all too much. It's the first suicide for quite some time, just when you think things are picking it rares up and bites you again.

The billboard sign, would you translate, please.
Just curious.
For PD and all the other cats.
Paraphrased, the sign is encouraging youth to take the path of staying in school [rainbow] rather than the other path that seems to lead to?
