Under way.

Some photos of the trenching, rock and gravel that had to be put in to form a suitable base for the footing of the new Media centre for Okalakatiget Society.
It was compacted then the form work put back.

Your soil looks very sandy.

Sandy ain’t the alf of it mate.

While there are large areas of granite outcroppings, mainly on the higher terrain, the community is built on mainly sandy soil, with some grayish clay interspersed in some areas, and small to large boulders cropping up here and there.
In most areas, if you dig down past 5/6 feet you get this sandy wet ooze.
Old timers say that the whole town will end up in the harbor eventually; it sure is a living entity down there.
Makes for lots of movement issues with the freezing and thawing. That’s why I was so gung ho on getting some rock base down for this building, still could be some movement issues but at least there is some base there.
