Yesterday afternoon we attended a reading of Charles Dickens a ‘Christmas Carol’ at the Moravian church.
It was a special event in that Paul Kennedy, host of CBC radios program ‘Ideas’ was in town to record the reading for a Christmas eve show.
So here are some pictures of the pre reading performers and readers and one of teacher Tom Mugford, whose idea it was, looking on with some of the readers.

In between readers we were entertained by various musical and vocal renditions of Christmas music from the rear balcony.
I thought I would throw in one of the window, it is indicative of the weather awaiting us outside.
The very very short respite from wind chills was short lived, by mid afternoon the sky had cleared, the wind came up, and blew what snow that had fallen away.
Back to -32 wind chill on leaving the church.

I'm glad you enjoyed the "Christmas Carol" reading, the CBC people do that all over the place, I'd like to go to one but I missed our local reading, it was last weekend.
My enjoyment could have been enhanced by the instillation of a sound system in the Church.
We were not that far from the lectern, I heard very little of the performance, even the adults when speaking did not come over that audible, then my hearing in one ear is not the best.
The critique is not directed at the performers nor the organizers, just saying.
No sound system? What happened to that beast of a sound system radio man William Kalleo was always wrestling with? Braodcasting the Kristingle service was his pride and joy...
It looks like a fun night was had by all. I'm glad CBC big wigs came up even when there was no crisis to report on...
No No Brookie, a sound system in the church itself was what I meant.
The Mike is still there with feed to OKS for broadcast.
Matter of fact this is the second event in the church that was an ideal time to ‘record’ or even go live with that feed. There must be a short to the light bulbs at OKS.
Actually, if you're speaking about the MUN brass band performance at the church, OKS did record it through the church feed and also by using a recorder at the performance. The feed through that mic in the church had aweful sound quality so we broadcast the event from the recording made by me in the church. As for Saturday's performance, from what we learned with the MUN brass band, I decided to capture it with a recorder in the church which has much better sound quality than the church line. A documentary style version of this complete with interviews with Paul and the students will be aired today and the full version of the reading on Sunday. I see your point about airing it live though, we may think about that next time, but the sound quality from the setup in the church is no good for re-broadcast.
Points well taken OKS.
From memory the last time the telephone company did a check on the line I think it was recommended that a new mike amplifier was in order for the church end. Maybe a filter would be needed too, not sure.
That was during the transition between the old and new building which was a little chaotic for a time if memory serves.
Will try and listen in today.
