Some one leave the freezer doors open?

Back into the -35 wind chills, beautiful weather otherwise, got it good considering all the suffering down under and other parts of the world that seem to be in constant turmoil and drama.

Came upon a negative of this old photo, five generations of woman. Taken in Hopedale on the budding pilots christening, great great grandma passed away not long after this was taken.

Reason we were in Hopedale for the christening was the Nain Moravian minister of the day had a bug up his arse about christening children of non regular church goers. So some flew and some ski doo’d to Hopedale for the event.

Any way who ever is in charge up there came down hard on buddy minister several years later on another matter, it involved church financial indiscretions.

How is the budding pilot doing, anyway? Any practice Hudson River landings yet? :-)

We [Fran] do not think of things like that.

Budding is back at school, not hearing much from her as her boyfriend was accepted in to the same course and is there with her, he did his first solo yesterday, and budding is like the clucking mother hen.

"non regular church goers>"

so it seems like northern labrador is no different then southwestern nfld. we see it here but a few bucks usually shuts the clergy up and they're all smiles afterwards. my feeling the past decade or so is that churches are not charities anymore and should be taxed. you would be surprised to know how many properties some churches actually have around here.

That's a great photo, not many families can have a pic of 5 generations these days. In fact, I never met either of my grandparents, both died before I was born.
BTW you writing about being in Hopedale has reminded me, I phoned Ross Flowers quite a while ago, so I hope he remembers me when he creates more carubou carvings!

To Table Mountains: Moravians in Labrador left their warts, but the people seemed to have adopted many Moravian customs as their own, to each their own I guess. Inuit have been running the church for some decades with just limited outside help and guidance, not a lot of wealth was left behind, and any lands were ceded [pre Danny] by the NL government and then SOME was handed back to NG under the land claim agreement.

Ex Sham: Fran is going to Hopedale next week, will ask her to follow up on carving.
