Had some left over pastry from a quiche and some left over mince meat. I added some red and blue berries to the mince meat and came up with this delicious Danish type of concoction.

Nominations open today for six seats on the Nain Inuit Community Government [NICG], in old parlance the Town Council. Nominations close on the 27th.

Five of the seats are open to class A voters within Nunatsiavut [beneficiaries] and one seat is reserved for class B voters [non beneficiaries].

If past history is an indicator then complacency will play a big role.

Then again maybe some of the anger and frustration with the handling of the- not that long ago plebiscite- on making Nain a dry community will resonate.

That little Enrique is such a cutie, I bet he keeps everyone on the run, he looks lively!
The mince meat in your recipe is the Christmas kind.... not the miced beef kind, right? looks good.
What's the difference between the voting rights of beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries?

I tried to leave a comment earlier, but I think Igor is making it difficult.

OK, both comments arrived, that's good.

Being a girl from the old dart you should not have to ask the mincemeat question.

As to voting rights: Beneficiaries vote for candidates [5 in Nain] that have to be beneficiaries as well.

Non-beneficiaries vote for one candidate in each Nunatsiavut Community who is also a non-beneficiary to represent them on council.

Beneficiaries benefit from all the benefits garnered for them under the land claims agreement plus any impact and benifit agreements [IBA] with companies exploiting the natural resources in the land claims area.

Non-beneficiaries living in the land claims area receive no benefits of any kind from Nunatsiavut. Non- beneficiaries have the pleasure of incurring all the other costs related to living here plus 4% of their federal taxes go to the Nunatsiavut Government,as do beneficiaries, living in the land claim area.

So in essence non-beneficiaries contribute more to Nunatsiavut than any beneficiary living outside the land claims area, but have no say in what goes on, except at the community level, and receive no benefits.

I think the debacle over the plebiscite fiasco will make more people run for these seats because it scares me knowing even though the community voted leave it alone, the Councillors still pursued it, even after the electorate said phooey on them.

Lets hope the fire is still in the belly of the people Sean.
