Six and counting.

What a difference a week makes. This time last week it was 15 degrees and heading for a record 30.8.
This morning it is 7 degrees and heading for about 8.

Fog still around, not looking good for any flights. Any one who was here yesterday and wanting to get to Goose Bay and having any smarts would have jumped on the Northern Ranger last evening.

Man I thought I had royal Ozzie blood in me but this guy makes me jealous.

He does not seem to have a first fleeter in his mob, so he still has to kneel in my presence.

Wonder what linage ol John Howard has, bunch of upright church going wowsers I suppose.

OK... fill me in... First Fleeter means you came on the very first convoy of ships bringing convicts, right? Sp I suppose the PM's ancestors came on later ships? Must have been a pretty hard life back then... lucky to survive the journey let alone survive when you got to Aussieland.

Me thinks a more accurate description of meself would be a “descendant of first fleeters”. But some descendents do refer to themselves as “first fleeters”.
I have not done a thorough search, but the story on the PM does indicate that his descendents arrived in the colonies on vessels much later than 1788. Mind you he has many more doggy ancestors than my linage.

To Ex-Sham.

Further to you comment of hardships back then. My mother sends me this quarterly magazine called Australian Heritage. For the first few issues I just glanced through them, the latest “winter 2008” I at last started to read some articles through, boy I think I am hooked.
Just one example; the story of Elizabeth Isabella Throsby, father a government functionary of the first fleet, mother a convict. At age of two Elizabeth survived a massacre by New Zealanders, [she was on a ship with her mother on the way to England] only four out of seventy five were spared for various reasons. It goes on from there, remarkable really, makes a bit of fog and mushy vegetables seem moot.
