Gumption to the fore.

CBC news is reporting that 444 squadron out of 5 Wing will not be leaving today as planed. They were going to go on a 6 week training mission to Alberta, much to the chagrin of people in Labrador.
So some one some where has used some common sense, there is hope yet.

A bit late for Mothers Day but this is realy funny.

Search and Rsescue is pretty important in your part of the world.

Yes, it is incredulous that the top dogs even contemplated leaving such a large area without a trained SAR team for so long. Especially after what had happened not so long ago outside St. John’s.
So smarter heads prevailed, does not happen often.

I have to admit being stunned to learn these units are so small. Until now, I've never heard of a squadron constituting as little as four aircraft. My inkling is that is what normally comprises a detachment. Apparently, it would matter little if they had cash for more aircraft(they do not). They would lack the people to staff them if they did. Sad indeed for such a large area.

Maybe they use weasel words in the forces these days to hide their woeful people and equipment strengths.
Why call 5 wing a wing when the only aircraft they have is the Avro Vulcan outside the civilian terminal.

444 has been decimated due to Afghanistan commitments, I think it only has three choppers and just one crew for the summer at the moment. A far cry from the days of low level flying in GB. Actually the powers that be would pull 444 tomorrow if it was not for the politicians.
Nothing another 2 million voters could not fix though.
