Conservation officers from Goose Bay and Nain have been out looking for the bear since yesterday afternoon, doing it by chopper. Locals spotted a bear to the northern part of Nain hill this morning. I guess in this case conservation officer is an oxymoron.
The conservation officers did report that the musk ox is still out on the island, or near a bout’s, that it was on in the spring. Not sure how being way out there will get the bear, but guess they took opportunity to check on the musk ox.
The M/V Clipper Adventure was in town this morning. Looked like a good lot of tourists out taking in Nain. Several members of the drum dance troupe were giving a performance for them; some small crafts were on display and for sale near the council office. These visits of cruise ships usually do not drop much money in town to date. Suppose you just have to stick at it and hope things change.
After a cooler night [7] it is again getting warmer, nice breeze making it comfortable for walking around.

In case you didn't know the Prov govt is accepting submissions for community enhancement projects.
It is only a two page form and has to be endorsed by a community group but can be filled out by any individual to be submitted to the town for review and submission.
Good opportunity to get some ideas on paper and flesh out the details.Deadline is August 31.

Good Luck!
Noticed it on your blog nl-expt.
I'm going to bring to attention of town council. With slow season at fish plant it may be needed.
Good stuff your a real asset for your community and the province as a whole. We need to encourage more community participation like you do.
Are they doing the same thing up there with the fish Quotas?
You know by not harvesting their fish Quotas it basically amounts to a lock out right.
I'm not all that up on union stuff but if you get locked out aren't you entitled to strike pay from the union?
You must have seen it either at the Labrador forum or the Marine Mountain forum I didn't put it on my blog not enough readership. Most of what I get is from the states and Ottawa with a good chunk from Nl.

Not sure what fish quotas you reference ExPat.
But anyway it would not be relevant up here, at least as far as the Nain fish plant goes. They only do char and scallops at the moment, and have done for quite a few years. Makkovik does crab and turbot, amongst other species maybe.
All the cod was fished out by some crowd back by the late 1970’s.
Turbot used to be brought in to process but politics has had an effect on that. All the off shore draggers either process on board or take catch south for processing.
Please be more specific in your crowd analogy.
That would be the fleet of draggers from Nova Scotia who were subsidized by the federal government for distant water fishery back in the 70's I believe.
I didn't come here to argue about spilt milk and try to lay blame for what can't be undone without some real cahones by the feds with respect to Our continental shelf, rise and slope which constitues some 40% outside the 200 mile Economic trade off Zone.
I just came across this PR in which they tell of another discovery at least strong indications of a discovery of more mineral deposits.

What did strike me was the mention oif a contract to a NB company for the drill work? Isn't there any drill companies up there anywhere that could have done his exploratory work? If not I would think the investment in a drill rig would make good sence for some entrepreneur up there.
