Seeing that it's mauzy out thought I would post some pictures, two taken by unknown Moravian photogs. The group one is of a Joal Ford, his wife and adopted daughter, Hebron 1909. The solo guy is my wifes grandfather Nathan Frieda, Hopedale 1916.
The colored one taken by me of the remnants of the Brass Band in Nain circa late 1980's.

Hi Brian. I was intrigued to see a photo of your wife's grandfather, Nathan Frieda, on your blogg. I'm doing place name research with the Labrador Innu at the moment, and the Innu have named a couple of places after Nathan. One of them is Katshipunasht-minishtiku, an island at the mouth of the southern branch of the Adlatok River. Joachim Nui told me that Katshipunasht refers to the act of cupping your hand to your ear in order to hear better. This is what they called Nathan who was apparently a bit deaf. Amos Mucko told me that Nathan was hard of hearing because he had been "shell-shocked" fighting the Germans in WWI. What do you know of this? Do you know anything more about Nathan's history? Also, would it be possible to get a photo of him for our archives and a place names website we're putting together. Please reply to me at parmitage@nl.rogers.com Thanks - Peter Armitage

Hi, Nathan Frieda is also my grandfather, my mother is audrey wiggins, my name is greg. my grandmother Louise was a Web from nain.
My Grandmother Louise told me my grandfather Nathan came from Sandwich bay, and is related somehow to the Williams there!
i'm trying to trace the history of the Frieda name, looks to be German. and he wasn't in no war, but i do remember Nathan being a little hard of hearing, later in his life.

Hi,just thought i would add, my mother's Uncle Fred Freida was in the war, this is where the mixup is about my Grandfather Nathan being alittle deaf.
Also Nathan is somehow related to the Toomashie's, i recall mrs Charlotte "Toomashie" Gear of Postville mentioning this to me, years ago.
