Thar be evil deeds afoot in that thar bay.

The blockade by the strikers is over, for now. The two vessels that were anchored off until this morning are free to go about there evil deeds.

Could be two ship loads of copper and one of nickel at the loading dock; be interesting to track where they end up.

I’m waiting, with baited breath, a pronouncement of support for the strikers from our fearless leader Danny. He did say he would not get involved with side taking, but then went on to say he was worried about the fincial situation of the strikers and their families. Batter up Danny boy.
In a totally unrelated matter, the concentrate taken out in the next couple of weeks could be worth up to a quarter million bucks. Scrooge McSullivan, minister for money, must be salivating in his jeans knowing all that provincial revenue will be on its way to his coffers.

The president of the local is on his way from the north to St.John’s for meetings with his people and VBNC. Word is that VBNC did not want to meet with the union in Goose Bay, too many strikers.

The president of the local wanted all to know that no laws were broken while the blockade was under way; the ships captains respected the picket lines by not crossing them.
Wonder what the other workers at the site will now do? Very delicate situation indeed for future negotiations in the compensation and binefit area.

I thought Danny already battered up, telling VBNC workers to go all out, a day after telling FPI workers to take a pay cut?

Brian,

I wonder what the processors in Sudbury will say about that ore, if that's what's going on. While they said no scab ore, they didn't say they wouldn't process ore that coems from before the strike. hmmm.

By the way, congratulations--you're attracting spam.

Hmmm indeed, that’s a good point fishician. Sure most the strikers have not though of that possibility.
There is some media types talking about the Ontario/Manitoba unions not offering up enough support for their brothers and sisters, then it is a long way away, and Thompson seems to depend quite a lot on the VB ore.

As to Danny batting up, how many strikes does he get before hitting the dug out?

The labor unrest maybe in it’s infancy in at the VB mine mill. Many areas of operation are contracted out, these workers do not receive anywhere near what the direct VBNC workers get in compensation and benefits, so once the dust settles, and depending on who gets what, things may hot up again for Inco/VBNC. Whatever happens with talks, the cat is out of the bag so to speak.
I will pas askinstoo info on to the strikers.

However many he wants, probably. It's not baseball, it's Dannyball; he gets to make up the rules as he goes along, and no one has the guts to call him out.

A small correction to my previous comment.

Seems the union local had considered the possibility that the offer from the Sudbury union may not include concentrate stoked before the strike. What and if any intentions to do about it is not known to me.

On the batter up, Danny boy does not own my balls, [nor will I be polishing his anytime soon] nor many others me thinks. It’s a plus for many NL pols that the province is so large. If like minded people could get together easier and cheaper then these yo bos would be brought to task much sooner than what is the norm.

Shouldn't the union workers in Sudbury and Thompson be asked to show some solidarity and go out on strike to?
I thought that was the reason for joining a union.

I didn't quite follow you on the two ships were they ore carrying ships and if so were they allowed to load up and take ore out?

Yes nl-expat, they are all ore carrying ships. Some are multi purpose, the Arctic and the Umiak can bring in other freight to remote sites like VB and Mines in Quebec, then take ore out. The other vessels due in, and are in, I’m not sure, but they are all large ore carrying ships.
See http://www.vbnc.com/MarineTrafficSchedule.asp Then google. B.

Why would one want to bring large vessels like that just to bring one ship load of freight.
Been a long time since I was unionised, not sure how they operate under the present political climate.

Personally I think the best route to follow here would be to ge your message out in Thompson and Sudbury. Through letters to the editor, talk shows in those towns.

They should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this company to do this to their union brothers and sisters while they keep sucking from the company tit with our ore. Even if has become a shuffle game wit hore from VBNC going overseas and overseas ore going there.

Where is the union solidarity?
